| Course contents : | Addictive behaviors are explored from a cognitive approach. We address cognitive models of a variety of addictive-related phenomena such as the 'loss of control' over drug consumption or other inappropriate behaviors (e.g., gambling), the high occurrence of too risky behaviors and abnormal level of motivation to take drugs or to act in a compulsive manner. Each of these aspects is studied through the presence of cognitive deficits, attentional and memory biases and motivational systems. Three addictive-related stages are investigated: the vulnerability to become a true addict, the development of addiction and the relapse. How much these models are relevant for therapeutic interventions is discussed. |
 |
| Course objective : | 1. Definition of key addictive-related phenomena (e.g., motivation, risky behaviors, craving for drugs-gambling)
2. To learn of methodological and theoretical issues related to cognitive and neuropsychological approaches
3. To study cognitive deficits and biases together with motivational systems in addicted people
4. To learn recent cognitive advances in therapeutic strategies for drug addicts |
