Course contents :  Introduction to Materials Science with application to semiconductors, metals, polymers and liquid matter. It aims at understanding the behaviour and physical properties of condensed matter, from the microscopic level to the macroscopic level.
Course objective :  Table of contents
1. Order and disorder in condensed matter. 2. Geometrical crystallography. 3. Crystallochemistry. 4. Chemical bond. 6. Nanostructures and small angle scattering. 7. Electronic structure of condensed matter. 8. Lattice vibrations. Thermal properties. 9. Magnetism. 10. Crystal defects and crystal growth. 11. Low dimensional systems : nanophysics.

Prerequisites :  Mathematical analysis. Fourier transforms.
Basic physics.
Basic chemistry.
Quantum physics.
Workshops :  Exercices on computer and report.
Organization :  Second term.
Written notes :  Lecture notes written by the professor and reference textbooks.
Assessment :  Written and oral exam in May-June, written exam in August-September.

The presentation of a scientific article will be part of the oral exam
