| Course contents : | This year, we will try to understand how a large part of contemporary Aesthetics is based on German Philosophy of culture. We will start by studying the important epistemological debate (XIX-XX centuries) between "sciences of nature" and "sciences of culture". Reading the most conclusive texts on this point, we will identify the specificity of the theoretical approach of cultural objects, especially works of art. Then, we will examine the possibility of a proper "science of art". Studied authors : Nietzsche, Burckhardt, Dilthey, Windelband, Rickert, Simmel, Wölfflin, Riegl, Warburg, Cassirer, Husserl, Panofsky. |
