Course contents :  Historical and philosophical approach to three great currents of contemporary architecture (modernism, postmodernism, deconstructivism). These currents are examined based on texts by architects that are the most representative figures of each current (Loos, Le Corbusier, Venturi, Koolhaas, etc.). They are then placed in relation to theories of philosophy that are used to reflect upon the profound ideological changes, of which these architectural tendencies are the manifestation (Comte, Benjamin, Heidegger, Lyotard, Derrida, etc.).
Course objective :  To familiarize students with the specific characteristics of the architectural art, and to the major changes it has undergone in thewthe contemporary period. Theoretical lessons alternate with the analysis of selected works, chosen as the most significant of the period being studied.
Prerequisites :  None.
Workshops :  None.
Organization :  Length and time period: 30 hours, 2nd quadrimester.
Location and schedule : Lumière room, Thursdays from 13h to 15h.
