| Course contents : | The course is devoted to an examination of the reversal made by Condillac in the manner of conceiving the relationship between language and thought. For the earlier Condillac language is the condition of possibility of all thought. But in the Traité des sensations he admits the existence of a pre-linguistic thought, and language becomes a method of analysis. The later Condillac came to consider science as a well-formed language. The various developments in Condillac's thought will be related to the positions of his predecessors and successors. |
