Course contents :  Partim 2 will be subdivided in two parts:

1.reflexions on phytotherapy with a smattering about traditional medicine and informations about recent developments of phytomedicine.Classification according to the main pharmacological effects of these plants. The student will be able to distinguish variuos pharmaceutical forms ( crude drug, extracts, tinctures..)because the amount of active principles varies according to the nature of extraction solvent.

2.The second part of partim 2 will be devoted to the great classics of pharmacognosy: toxic plants that contain alkaloids, cardiotoxic glycosides...that are still used in medicine just as they are or after derivatization
Course objective :  To treat the education of pharmacy students thanks to the multidisciplinary field of pharmacognosy: -informations about phytochemical classes and metabolites (active principles mainly);- description of plants used not only in medicine but also in food and cosmetics; -survey of the main toxic plants of our environment; -pharmacological interest and limitations of medicinal plants used in phytotherapy; -specific methods of quality control in pharmacognosy described in European Pharmacopoeia (drugs, extracts, essential oils, fixed oils...)...
