Course contents :  Table of contents I: Constitution of the Central Nervous System (CNS) II: Neuronal excitability and synaptic transmission - the different types of receptors III: Introduction to Pharmacodynamy IV: Introduction to Pharmacokinetics V: Brain monoaminergic (MA) and cholinergic systems VI: Drugs acting on MA and cholinergic systems (antipsychotics, antidepressants, psychostimulants, psychodysleptics, nicotine, medications for Alzheimer's disease) VII: Glutamate and "dissociative anaesthetics" VIII: GABA - anxiolytics/hypnotics - antiepileptics IX:Cannabinoid systems and cannabis X: Opioids XI: Ethanol
Course objective :  The first objective is to give informations regarding the different neurotransmitter systems in the central nervous system (CNS). The final objective is to give a good understanding of the mechanisms of action of the main types of psychotropic drugs
Prerequisites :  Basic notions about the anatomy and physiology of the CNS
