PEAV0030-1  Radio information in practice - part 1
Duration :  30h Pr
Credits/ECTS :
Master in Information and Communication, Professional Focus in Journalism, 1st yearToute l'année4
Holder(s) :  Dominique D'Olne
Language :  French language
Course contents :  This course aims to introduce students to the different facets of the profession of radio journalism, through exercises which are as close as possible to real life conditions. Split into two parts over the two years of the Masters, the course addresses the specificities of radiophonic writing, voice techniques, the basics of radio programme editing, the different forms of radio journalism. At the end of the second Masters, students should be able to carry out a placement within a professional radio studio.
Course objective :  The objectives are above all technical and formal, in so far as they bases of journalistic investigation are already covered in other courses.
Students thus learn:
- the particularities of radiophonic writing
- voice techniques
- the basics of radio programme editing (in particular spoken news)
- the different formats of radio journalism bulletin, news item, in-depth reporting, interview, news flash, headlines, news,
- use of current tools: digital recorders, computer montage.
Prerequisites :  None. However, listening regularly to national radio is highly recommended.
Workshops :  During the term, students will be called upon to carry out ten or so exercises (drafting a bulletin, news item, news flash, news headlines, interview ...). Students will be supported in their work by an assistant (introduction to recording materials and montage software). Close collaboration with the student radio 48FM will, moreover, showcase this work through radio broadcast.
Organization :  See : http://cipl82.philo.ulg.ac.be/horaires
Written notes :  No syllabus: compulsory note taking.
Assessment :  The exercises carried out will be assessed. These will contribute towards the final grade, but only marginally so (10%): they are mainly designed to prevent non-participation in class, given their eminently practical nature. The examination itself consists in assessing the additional work submitted by the students: a news item and the presentation of a spoken news broadcast. The examination will consist of an oral defence by the student of these latter two pieces of work (relevance to the subject, technical considerations, journalistic approach ...)
