Duration :  40h Th

Master in Information and Communication, Professional Focus in Cultural Mediation and Book-related Professions, 2nd yearToute l'année4
Holder(s) :  François Louis
Language :  French language
Course contents :  The course is based on exercises related to the introduction of science topics within the written press, radio, television and on line. Some of the students' productions may be published in professional media: mainly in Le Quinzième Jour or in the 'Réflexions' webpages.
Course objective :  Allow students to use what they have learned about media to scientific matters. They will thus have an opportunity to perfect basic journalistic responses (looking for information, checking sources, leading an interview, simplifying a message, etc.) in the demanding field of science. Emphasis is laid on writing techniques that contribute to accessibility (narration, metaphors, anecdotes, infography, etc.).
Prerequisites :  None. Yet previous attendance of course on journalism is an asset.
Workshops :  Students work on various samples (radio and tv documentaries, press articles, websites, press relesases, dispatches, etc.) in order to deduce and apply correct responses. They present short exercises in each class, and these are commented on the spot. A more ambitous exercise is presented at the end of term.
Organization :  Students are actively involved in the workshop, both to analyse samples and to produce their exercises. They should bring their laptops. The course is taught on Saturday mornings, in the first term.
Written notes :  No syllabus: compulsory note taking. Articles are handed out.
Assessment :  Students are assessed on their participation in class and their main exercise, which they present at the oral examination.
