Theoretical courses : General introduction : landscapes, landscape ecology and the role of Men. Spatial scale as a key concept of landscape ecology. Landscape spatial pattern as a central theme of landscape ecology. Landscape composition: definition and quantification. Remote sensing and geographic information systems: basic technologies of landscape ecology.
Exercises: Spatial pattern. Landscape composition. Landscape composition : patches, matrix (terrain).

At the end of the course, student will be able
- to understand and use the basic concepts of landscape ecology, landscape composition, and spatial scale;
- to understand and use indices of landscape composition;
- to understand and use these basic concepts of remote sensing and geographic information systems directly related to landscape ecology.
