Course contents :  This module covers diseases affecting both the upper and the lower airways. Medical and surgical aspects of the diseases are taught together with specific pathological and pharmacological aspects. In addition this module encompasses diseases occurring both in adults and children.

As an example the "Respiratory Diseases in Adults" course is divided in 9 lessons as follows:

-Bronchial Lung Semiology
-Investigations in Pneumology
-Asthma
-COPD
-Community acquired pneumonia and tuberculosis
-Lung cancer and pleural diseases
-Interstitial lung diseases
-Pulmonary vascular diseases
-Chronic respiratory failure
Course objective :  This teaching module is dedicated to cardio-pulmonary diseases. It will encompass the most frequent diseases stressing epidemiology as well as relationship between pathophysiological disturbances and clinical expression. This will allow to extend the concept prevailing for the APP (apprentissage par problèmes). Particular emphasis will be placed on the rational use of investigation exams in order to make diagnosis at the lower cost. Therapeutic principles will also be taught during this module by highlighting the mechanisms of action of drugs rather than focusing to much on the dosage or the side effects. According to this the choice of a treatment appears to be justified by the underlying anatomopathological and pathophysiological disorders.
Prerequisites :  The best learning of the different diseases teached during this 4th quadrimester needs to perfectly know the normal human condition about all the systems concerned.
Workshops :  Several workshops will be organized especially for the anatomo-pathology and the medical imagery teachings.
Organization :  All the courses will be given in the WELSCH auditorium at the CHU Sart Tilman. The timetable of these courses but also of the workshops and the clinical argument learning sessions will be put up near the Decanat at the CHU Sart Tilman.
Written notes :  Slides are available on CDrom or a web site (MyULg), well known by the students'association. Reference book:
