| Course contents : | Develop theoretical background and practical skills to be able to handle complex modelling situations such as the ones that appear in metal forming, crash/impact and biomechanical problems. First a general theory for non linear continuum mechanics is introduced. Its influence on the way to formulate constitutive equations for large deformation problems is emphasized. Then algorithmic treatment of the continuum model is undertaken, including time integration of constitutive equations and finite element development for large strain problems, time integration of conservation equation and contact problems. |

| Course objective : | Being able to
- Develop complex non linear models for metal forming, impact or biomechanical problems.
- Understand numerical techniques to solve the model.
- Use a finite element code for numerical simulation of extremely non linear situations.

| Prerequisites : | Mechanics of materials, continuum mechanics and finite elements. |

| Workshops : | Personal project: complete modeling of a material forming process or impact /contact situation. |
