Course contents :  1) review of the analysis of thermodynamics cycles for steam and gas;
2) technologies of gas turbines;
3) optimisation of combined cycles for gas/steam turbines;
4) advanced coal-fired power plants: supercritical cycles and power plants using integrated gasification of coal in a combined cycle;
5) reduction of emissions of pollutants: NOx, SOx, particles, heavy metals;
6) cogeneration;
7) technologies for CO2 capture and stocking
Course objective :  Calculation of performance, costs and environmental impact of fossil fuel based power plants
Prerequisites :  Applied thermodynamics
Workshops :  Exercises concerning various kinds of power plants
Organization :  1/2 day classes a week at the 1st semester
Written notes :  Slides and course notes; notes on exercises
Assessment :  Written and oral examination
