Course contents :  « 1) Literature: codex of nuances + 2) Semiology: listening to or watching for nuances » (Roland Barthes, Le Neutre, p. 37).
Adopting this definition of Roland Barthes as our own, the Semiology of Literature course is dedicated to the study of literature as a general form of meaning in social life.
Course objective :  1. Initiation in the semiological approach to texts.
2. Initiation in theoretical problems relating to literary objects.
Prerequisites :  None other than an in-depth knowledge of the French language.
Organization :  Fall term, Tu. 13.00-15.00, room A2/5/11.
Written notes :  A reading programme will be proposed in the course of the year.
Assessment :  Each student must hand in a 5 to 10 page piece of written work at the end of the year. An oral assessment will take place on the basis of this written piece of work.
