| Course contents : | « 1) Literature: codex of nuances + 2) Semiology: listening to or watching for nuances » (Roland Barthes, Le Neutre, p. 37). Adopting this definition of Roland Barthes as our own, the Semiology of Literature course is dedicated to the study of literature as a general form of meaning in social life. |

| Course objective : | 1. Initiation in the semiological approach to texts. 2. Initiation in theoretical problems relating to literary objects. |

| Prerequisites : | None other than an in-depth knowledge of the French language. |
 |
| Organization : | Fall term, Tu. 13.00-15.00, room A2/5/11. |
 |
| Written notes : | A reading programme will be proposed in the course of the year. |
 |
| Assessment : | Each student must hand in a 5 to 10 page piece of written work at the end of the year. An oral assessment will take place on the basis of this written piece of work. |
