| Course contents : | History of comparative linguistic. The Indo-European languages. The Proto-Indo-European phonologic system. The Proto-Indo-European roots theory. Looking into the etymology of a word. |

| Course objective : | To compare the modern and old languages from an historical angle. To be able to judge the etymological notes and to start a research in the field. |
 |
| Prerequisites : | Good knowleldge of the grammar of an Indo-European language different from French |
 |
| Workshops : | Output in April of a written paper dealing with the etymology of a word. Readings. |
 |
| Organization : | 30 h (+ 15 h practical) spread over the second semester. Timetable set with the students. Opening session en September announced on Section notice board. The attendance is obligatory. |
