Course contents :  
  • Linguistic evolution (general approach): the reasons, kinds, causes, processes and the spread of change geographically, socially and in the linguistic system.
  • In-depth study of the major phonetic, grammatical and lexical changes in the Dutch language in the 20th and 21st centuries.
Course objective :  1) General understanding of linguistic change and changes to the Dutch language in the 20th century in particular.
2) Ability to use specialised literature in a critical manner, with the aim of deepening the student's knowledge in this field.
Prerequisites :  Understanding of spoken and written Dutch.

Preceded by: History of the Dutch language (BAC 3)
Workshops :  Critical reading of articles from scientific journals - oral presentation of a critical reading report.
Organization :  Timetable and session: 30 hour - 2nd quarter.
