Course contents :  After an introduction presenting the different approaches to the study of Latin literature and the chronological and historical frames, the lessons follow the chronological order : the biginnings of Latin literature, prose literature down to the time of August, poetry of the late Republic, the imperial period, the late Empire. The characters of each period are described and the most important works in prose and poetry are studied. Translated excerpts are commented. Notions of prosody and metric complete the course.
Course objective :  A general survey of the most important authors of Latin literature and their works from the biginnings down to the fall of the Roman western Empire.
Prerequisites :  Nothing.
