Post-excavation treatment of ceramic archaeological finds:

Cleaning? Conservation? Storage? Restoring?

Learning the preparatory techniques for assembling and fixing, i.e.:

1. Sorting and trial assembly (prior to fixing) 2. Holding techniques
3. Marking varnish
4. Marking
5. Practicalities

Post-excavation treatment of ceramic archaeological finds:

Cleaning? Conservation? Storage? Restoring?

Teaching ceramic cleaning techniques.

1. Establishing a preliminary diagnosis: condition
2. Evaluating the risks of severe cleaning
3. Detecting the presence of salts (efflorescence): compression treatment.
4. Detecting damp, suspect marks which may damage the object
5. Carrying out a dry clean: dusting, scrubbing, micro-pinning
6. Cleaning using treated water (together with the archaeologist responsible for the excavation site)
7. Carrying out cataplasms
8. Compression treatment
9. Power point: Cleaning terracotta
