| Course contents : | This seminar is accessible to the students Master (in-depth approach) in History (Option "Beginnings of Modernity ») and in History of Art and Archeology (Option "Gothic Middle Ages and Renaissance" / organization without options). It takes place in a coherent specialized training program linked with research activities of the Centre "Transitions. Centre of History of Late Middle Ages and Early Modern Period" (see www.transitions.ulg.ac.be (http://www.transitions.ulg.ac.be/).

This year, the seminar theme will be: Renaissance Rome: urban mise-en-scene. We will define the techniques implemented by the authorities (Holy See, Spain, Empire, nobility...) within the roman urban space to claim their power. We will prove to understand the mechanisms of this system built on prestige and pomp thanks to an accurate analysis of town-planning and ceremonial undertaking. |

| Organization : | The course will be hold in two parts:
- First quadrimester: each Tuesday, 2:00-4:00pm (Petit Physique) : theoretical basis (ca. 15 hours)
- Second quadrimester (towards Carnival leave): 1 week in Rome (Academia Belgica).
