| Course contents : | Within the framework of a multidisciplinary approach, taking into account both the resources of Altertumswissenchaft, and the methods of other fields of research (ethnology, statistics, etc.), the course is devoted to the discussion of several questions regarding fundamental aspects of Roman society (i.e., the Roman imperialism, the functions of games, the system of patronage, etc.). Subjects change every year. Philological and lexicological methods are broadly used. |

| Course objective : | To familiarize the students with research methods and instruments, while giving them information on the current orientations of researches about Roman civilization and society. |

| Prerequisites : | Basic knowledge of Latin language, advanced knowledge in Roman history, Roman institutions and civilization. |
