| Credits/ECTS : |
| Holder(s) : | Dominique Allart |
| Language : | French language |
| Course contents : | The following areas are taken up: drawing, painting, engraving, sculpture, and arts involving fire (glassmaking, stained glass, goldsmithing). With regard to each area, information about materials, tools, the practice of technical operations and the manner in which these determine the appearance of a work of art are considered. |
| Course objective : | To give a theoretical insight into classical artistic techniques; to understand the restrictions that they place upon the creative act and the effects that they produce. This knowledge is required to study the history and aesthetics of works of art, as they allow for the style to be more precisely characterised, and to approach problems relating to their conservation. |
| Prerequisites : | None, other than the general requirements for the study of History of Art and Archaeology. Practical training in the techniques studied is not necessary but it would be an advantage. |
