Course contents :  This activity aims mainly at offering first-year students a first contact with the reality of economic and business world. It takes place in complementarity and support of the diverse courses provided to these students in their business education and enables them to relate their studies to the real world.
Course objective :  Through this activity, students will be able:
  • to become more familiar to the objectives and roles of organizations (from the public, private and non-profit sectors)
  • to discover concretely products and services provided by these organizations
  • to become aware of, and better understand the different jobs relating to business
  • to discover the different functions in an organization
  • to have an overview of the socio-economic panorama and the industrial world in Wallonia and Belgium
Prerequisites :  No prerequisites
Organization :  The activity structures around a cycle of conferences, by different key actors from the economic and business world. We will invite in particular former students of HEC-ULg, in order that the students can identify themselves to the invited individuals.
Through the presentations of managers and with various supports (videos, demonstrations of products or services, documentation, websites...), the students will discover the organizations, their products and services, and will better understand the diverse jobs relating to business.
Written notes :  The students are expected to take notes during the conferences.
Assessment :  The evaluation comprises two parts:
  • The presence in class is compulsory and represents 30% of the final grade.
  • The final test with a set of questions with multiple answers (QMC), focused on the content presented (two or three questions per conference). The test represents 70% of the final grade).
