| Course contents : | The course gives to the student the main elements of the 5 most important environmental management tools which are used today by the companies and organizations:
1) The environmental management system (ISO14000 and EMAS);
2) The environmental impact assement study;
3) The Life Cycle Analysis of products and services;
4) The CO2 balance sheet;
5) The eco-label, in particular the European eco-label.
For each of these tools, examples are given and analyzed.
In parallel to the course, conferences are organized: environmental managers of industrial companies will explain the environmental issues they are facing and the solutions adopted. |

| Course objective : | The objective of the course is allow the student to understand the role and the methods of implementation of the 5 most important management tools which are used today by the enterprises and organisations (Environmental Management System ISO14000 - EMAS, Environmental Impact Assessment, Life Cycle analysis, CO2 Balance, Eco-label). |

| Prerequisites : | The knowledge of the objectives, principles and general methods of eco-management is useful. |
 |
| Workshops : | A personal home-work is asked for to each student: a search and analysis of a test-case of one of the 5 environmental management tools. |
 |
| Organization : | The course is composed of oral lectures and analysis of examples, which include a large interactivity with the students. One of the lectures could take place in the premises of regional enterprises. |
 |
| Written notes : | Lecture notes (power point) are available for each of the oral lectures. Documents and/or files are available for the examples. |
 |
| Assessment : | The final evaluation consists of an oral exam. The student presents orally his summary of a case-study. |

| Remarks : | Each year, a topical environmental issue is examined more in detail. The active participation of the students is asked for.
The students are also invited to participate in various events (conferences, ...) organized by the University and dedicated to environmental, social responsability and sustainable development issues. |
