Course contents :  Linguistic developments and geographical distribution of the Indo-European languages. Migration of the Germanic tribes and characteristics of the Germanic subgroup.

From IE to PG ; from PG to WG; from WG to OE, OS, OFr and OHG.

IE roots and verbal system
Course objective :  It is designed :

to provide an overview of the links and differences between Germanic and other IE languages;

to lead students to a finer appreciation of the migrations of the Germanic tribes;

to give them a geater ability to recognize relationships between some Germanic languages;

to introduce them to the theory and practice of linguistic reconstruction.
