 |
| Duration : | 24h Th, 8h Pr, 4h AUTR |
 |
| Credits/ECTS : |
|
 |
| Holder(s) : | Jean Marie Marcoen |
 |
| Language : | French language |
 |
| Course contents : | First part - Soil components
(1) Soil's solid phase
- mineral contituents : origins, particle-size distribution, soil's skeleton grains, weathering complex (clays, sesquioxides, amorphous minerals)
- organic constituents
(2) Soil's pore space : soil's solution and atmosphere
(3) Methods of determination : techniques of microscopy, X rays, differential thermal analysis, infrared spectroscopy
(4) Relation with pedogenesis and soil's classification
Second part - Soil Interface in the Environnment
(1) Complete study of soil mineralogy
(2) Environmental applications
(3) Soil's properties and major threats
(4) Monitoring and protection of soil resource |
 |
| Course objective : | The knowledge of soil's constituents and properties is necessary to tackle with success environmental problems.
The first part of the lecture, "Soil components", concerns identification of these components, their evolution and ways of determination.
The second one, "Soil Interface in the Environnment", deals with the major threats on soils identified by the European Commission.
After completing the course the student is expected to
- identify the different soil's constituents
- understand the influence of that constituents on physical and chimical soil's properties
- choose the most appropriate method of constituents' determination
- understand and anticipate/manage soil's major threats |
