The project could be typically a mining one, but could be also related to rehabilitation of former industrial site. The students have an objective to perform a due diligence of the project and will therefore work as an "engineering bureau" with assuring an optimal work strategy. All stages of the mining project duration, from geological prospecting through deposit evaluation and choice of methods for exploitation and mineral processing to site rehabilitation will be considered. Environmental, hydro-geological, financial (cash-flow) issues should be addressed and studied in depth. |
| Course objective : | To enable the students to understand the principle steps in performing feasibility study of mining projects, using realistic scenarios taken from existing case. To stimulate team-working spirit and critical analysis. To immerse the students inside working environment of a real engineering bureau. |
| Prerequisites : | The following basic subjects are required as a prerequisite for successful accomplishing the miltidisciplinary project: Geology, Mineral resources, Geotechnics, Mineral processing, Hydrogeology |
| Organization : | A complete file of a mining/other relevant project will be made available to the students. The students will be grouped and allocated the various "work packages". One half-day per week during the semester will be dedicated to brainstorming sessions at which progress reports will be follow by the academic coordinator. The academic staff members responsible for each project part will be present during a mid-term report presentation.
