| Course contents : | Geology studies the origin and history of our planet, the composition and evolution of its constituing materials (including life), and the physical, chemical and biological processes producing and modifying these materials. Geology explains natural phenomena at various spatial scales, from organisation of atoms within a mineral to the formation of montains and oceans, and even planetary phenomena, at a large range of temporal scales, from seconds to billions of years. Geology together with other sceinces also look at the impact of human activities on the environment (pollution, global warming, natural resources, ..) and conversely (flood, seisms, tsunami, volacnic eruptions, ...). |

| Course objective : | general knwoledge of geology, physical geography and mineralogy. Topics include formation of the solar system, internal composition of Earth, plate tectonics, notions of climatology and alteration of rocks, processes of erosion, transport and sedimentation on the continent and in the marine environment, sedimentary processes, evolution of rocks, magnetic field, tectonics, orogeny, volcanism, natural resources, stratigraphy and methods of dating rocks, and life evolution. |
