| GEOL0228-1 | Crystallochemistry of rock-forming minerals
| Duration : | 20h Th |
| Credits/ECTS : |
| Holder(s) : | André‑Mathieu Fransolet |
| Language : | French language |
| Course contents : | The course is subdivided in three parts: 1. Crystal chemistry of the minerals reported in the objectives. 2. Short discussion on applications of spectroscopic methods. 3. Incidence of the crystal structure on the optical properties. |
| Course objective : | In order to help a student during his master thesis, or to complete an information, the course proposes to critically investigate crystallochemical problems of selected groups of minerals. On the contrary of the cases envisaged in the lectures of "Mineralogy and X-ray crystallography" taught in 3rd Bac in Geological Sciences, the mineral species present an obvious economic potential or are known to interest other research domains (biology, environment,...). The list comprises the following minerals: apatite, micas, feldspathoids, zeolites, sepiolite. |
| Prerequisites : | The subjects taught in the lectures of Crystallography and Mineralogy during the second and the third Bac in Geological Sciences must be obviously known. |
| Organization : | As the course is optional, the schedule is fixed with the students and, thus, can vary from a week to the other one. Normally the duration is two hours with a short interruption. The course is taught in French. |
| Written notes : | Relevant documents and notes are given during the lectures. |
| Assessment : | An oral examination takes place during the official session. |
