Course contents :  Historical background. Species and populations. Role of the natural selection. Speciation. Punctuated equilibrium or phyletic gradualism? Fossil record. Ontogenesis and phylogenesis. Heterochrony . Exemples of specific evolution from the fossil record. Macroevolution. Genetic evolution. Morphological limits of the diversification. Conclusions.
Course objective :  Study of the morphological processes of evolution in species.
Prerequisites :  Basic knowledge in palaeontology and biology.
Organization :  First period of the odd years.
Registration for the course has to be made before the end of September 2009, directly to E. Poty.
Dates for the course have to be set during the first period. Lecture room is in building B18, Sart Tilman (animal palaeontology, department of geology).
