4.3. Introduction to mapping and spatial interpolation.
Course objective :  1) To introduce the basic notions of uni- and bivariate statistics. To stress the importance of a quantitative approach in geosciences.
2) To be able to handle the concepts of graphical display, exploratory data anlysis and statistical analysis of geological data.
3) To analyse the distribution laws generated by different geological processes and to compare them to the theoretical laws available for modelling.
4) To familiarise oneself with the use of software tools for data processing
Prerequisites :  Néant
Workshops :  TP 1 : Introduction to Statistica
TP 2 : Visualisation and data conversion
TP 3 : Analysis and characterisation of experimental distributions
TP 4 : Univariate statistical analysis
TP 5 : Analysis of experimental correlations
TP 6 : Modelling of correlations
Organization :  Theory : 2nd Semester - Monday 10:30-12:30

Practice - Computer labs : 2nd Semester - Tuesday 08:30-12:30
Written notes :  Copy of PPT used for teaching

Written notes edited by AEES : "Analyse Spatiale des Données Géo-Environnementales" (part)
Assessment :  Oral examination after a written preparation of 30 minutes.
The oral examination will privilege a practical perception of the concepts rather than a pure restitution of the theory.
