| Course contents : | The course is devoted to the questions of development and spatial planning. It includes three sections. The first deals with the issue of the unequal development of territories, at both, the international level and the regional level. This section develops the concepts and theories related to the issue of development by focusing on the Third World countries on the one hand and on the European Union on the other hand. The second section is devoted to the theme of territorial development with an analysis on the factors of regional competitiveness. The third section is devoted to spatial planning policies. It develops their main objectives and disposals. The Belgian case, with a focus on the Walloon situation, is particularly developed. |
 |
| Course objective : | Provide to the future geographers theoretical and practical knowledges about, on the one hand, the unequal development of the World and its regions and, on the other hand, spatial planning policies.
Those knowledges have three main purposes:
- to allow students to reframe issues and political debates in the fields of development and spatial planning;
- to prepare students to other courses devoted to spatial planning;
- to prepare students to intervene in the fields of territorial development and spatial planning (local development interventions, urban planning interventions, management of European projects...). |
