Course contents :  The course is divided in two parts. The first part deals with the strength of Earth Materials, Properties of rock masses and soils. In the second part, the students will present individually a lecture on one of the following subject: erosion of hillslopes by raindrops and flowing water, mass wasting of soils, flow failures on hillslopes, rock-slope processes model and hillslope development. A student doing his PhD at ULg on a subject relevant for the course will also do a lecture,
Course objective :  The objective is to give an overall background of the different hillslope materials and processes and to have the stucent actively participating to the lecture. They will have (1) to give a lecture on the course subject using the reference book and at least on other support, and (2) to write in English a summary of their lecture.
Prerequisites :  Basics in geology and geomorphology
Workshops :  The lectures are supplemented by two half a day field trips focusing on mass wasting and rockfalls.
Organization :  The lectures last 2 hours.

o M. J. Selby, 1993, Hillslope materials and processes, Oxford University Press.
Assessment :  It is based for 60% on the lecture the student will give within the framework of the courses using the reference book and other materials, for 10% on the student interaction during discussion/questions sessions at the end of the lectures, and for 30% on a summary written in English of a lecture given by an other student.
