Course contents :  1. Genetic aspects of evolution (C. Remacle) (6 h + 6 h Pr)
- Genetic factors of evolution (mutation, migration, selection, genetic drift) - Mechanisms contributing to speciation (species definition, pre- and postzygotic barriers; types of speciation (sympatric, allopatric)
2. Molecular aspects of evolution (V. Demoulin) (7h+ 7h Pr)
- Evolution of macromolecules: functional role of aminoacids or nucleotides or neutral mutations (introduction) (1h) - Use of aminoacid or nucleotide sequences to reconstruct evolution -Intrinsic interest and use in functional studies (5h) - Evolution of secundary metabolism (1h)
3. Genetic diversity of species and applications ((J. Michaux) (7h + 7h Pr)
- Phylogeography - Population genetics - Genetics of conservation
Course objective :  Fundamentals of population genetics and evolution
Prerequisites :  Elements of biology, genetics and biochemistry of the Bac level.
Workshops :  Practical courses on bioinformatic applications of molecular evolution and on resolution of problems of population genetics
Organization :  First quadrimester course taking usually place in one of the lecture rooms of the Botanical Institute in Sart Tilman (B.22). The sequence of the course is that of the general presentation.
Written notes :   Notes and Powerpoint slides for Cl. Remacle.
Distribution of photocopies of illustrations and specially interesting papers for V. Demoulin.
Assessment :  Written examination (one question for each of the three parts). The examination is successful if the note is 10 and no partim is less than 8/20.
