| Duration : | 30h Th, 30h Pr |
| Credits/ECTS : |
| Holder(s) : | Jean‑Marc Franssen |
| Language : | French language |
| Course contents : | Methods of structural analysis : Introduction - Basic theorems - Flexibility method (classical) - Stiffness method (classical, simplified, use of software) - Moment distribution method - Trusses - Influence lines - Plastic global analysis (basic theorems, static and kinematic methods) - Basic notions of critical load - Second order effects - Worked examples. |
| Course objective : | This course is particularly dedicated to the analysis of statically undeterminate structures.
Deliver the background of the methods of global analysis and train to the determination of internal forces and displacements in a given structure subjected to a given loading.
Develop the physical understanding of geometric (second order effects) and matérial (yielding) non linearities and discuss their consequences. |
| Prerequisites : | Strength of materials - Elementary statics. |
| Workshops : | A substantial part of the lectures is devoted to exercises and worked examples. |
| Organization : | Lectures and exercises are organised alternately. Some marked exercices are organised during the courses, with advance notice to the students.
Usually, the course is organised in spring, on Tuesday afternoon, from 1:30 to 5:30 |
| Written notes : | Available. |
| Assessment : | Separate oral (theory) and written (exercises) examinations.
30% for the marked exrecices
30% for the written examination
40% for the oral examination |
