Course contents :  - Basic sensors and principles;
- Amplifiers and signal processing;
- The origin of biopotentials;
- Biopotential electrodes;
- Biopotential amplifiers;
- Chemical biosensors;
- Electronic recognition of biomolecules;
- Sources of electronic noise.
Lectures about industrial biomedical products are given by outside speakers..
Course objective :  To present the fundamentals of biomedical signals acquisition and electronic processing.
Prerequisites :  General knowledge of electrical circuits analysis, of analog and digital electronics, as covered in courses ELEC0053-2, ELEN0075-1 et ELEN0040-1.
Workshops :  Cellular transmembrane potential measurements and design of a complete ECG acquisition device.
Organization :  Theory course and problems sessions on monday AM, spring quarter.
Written notes :  Reference textbook : Medical Instrumentation, 3rd ed, J.G. Brewster; Wiley.
Slides are available.
Assessment :  Based on a bibliographic resarch work on advanced topics, conducted in team of 2 or 3 students.
