Course contents :  The course aims to demonstrate the application of the basic laws of physics in living organisms and their components. Several items will be discussed during the course:
* length and time scales in living organisms
* applications in sound, speech and hearing; light, eyes and vision; electromagnetic fields; neurobiophysics
* techniques used for the measurement of structure, geometry and mechanical properties of biomolecules
Course objective :  * To give students a feel for the myriad applications of the laws of physics in living organisms.
* To relate theoretical concepts and tools to practical engineering and scientific problems.
* To demonstrate how advances in technology (based on physical concepts) can assist the advancement of knowledge in the life sciences and the improvement of life.
Prerequisites :  Knowledge of general principles of physics as covered by bachelor courses PHYS2020-1, PHYS2021-1 and PHYS2022-1.
Workshops :  * Weekly exercise sessions
* Guest lectures on specific topics
Organization :  Theory course and problems sessions on Friday PM, spring quarter
Written notes :  lecture notes (in english) will be made available.
Assessment :  Written exam containing a theoretical and an exercise part.
