Anatomical structure of softwoods and hardwoods
Structure of cell wall and submicroscopical structure
Wood anatomy of tropical hardwood species
Anatomical features leading to the identification of wooden species
Heartwood and heartwood formation
Abnormal structure (compression wood and tension wood)
WOOD CHEMISTRY
General composition
Cellulose, hemicellulose, lignine and secondary components.
Course objective :  To lay the foundation for the knowledge of wood which is a complex raw material by the diversity of its chemicals, its anisotropic structure and the multitude of anatomical variations. To observe the main physical and mechanical properties of clear wood.
After completing the course the student is expected to
Describe an unknown species based on anatomical characteristics
Identify a woody species from a microscopic slide
Understand the impact of anatomy on the behavior of the wood material (drying, impregnability, strength, figurative wood)
Prerequisites :  Basic knowledge in silviculture
