Course contents :  1. Introduction

6. Security measure in forest harvesting

7. Wood fuel chain supply
Course objective :  Presentation of main forest harvesting systems used throughout the world. Attention is paid to
- interaction between environment constraints and equipments;
- improvement thanks to new technologies (wood supply chain);
- security measures in forest harvesting.
After completing the course the student is expected to
- understand the concepts harvesting methods and harvesting systems;
- be able to identify the factors affecting the selection of a harvesting system;
- be able to recognize the most common equipments used in mechanized forest harvesting and to know their main functionalities;
- be able to estimate the productivity and calculate the profitability of a forest harvesting system;
- be able to set up safety concepts in forest harvesting operations (safety equipment, risk factors, ..).
Prerequisites :  Basic knowledge in silviculture
