ENVT2012-1  Hydrology in inter- and sub-tropical zones
Duration :  18h Th, 2d FW
Credits/ECTS :
Advanced Master in Environmental Management in developing countries First semester3
Holder(s) :  François Petit
Language :  French language
Course contents :  The first part of the course analyzes the different components of the hydrological cycle with an approach more specific for the inter and subtropical zones. The second part of the course concerns the morphology and the dynamics of rivers (zonal components of rivers patterns), the different rivers regimes and the sedimentary fluxes
Course objective :  The first part of the course analyzes the different components of the hydrological cycle, taking into consideration for each, the methods of measurements, the specific treatments of the data, climatic and regional components and modifications as results of man actions. The second part relates to the fluvial dynamics (more specifically in inter and subtropical areas), to the discharges origin in different types of climate, to the typology and the working of the major tropical rivers.
Workshops :  Two field days (discharge measurements, case studies analyzed in the course, relating to the fluvial patterns and the human impacts on the fluvial dynamics (prevention against the floods, rivers restoration..)
Organization :  The course is given in March and April : three days of theoretical course (3 x 6 hours) and two field trip days.
Written notes :  Syllabus and copy of power point slides are available.
Assessment :  Written examination
