| Course contents : | This course analyses the interface "Environment, Nature and Management", and proceeds based on questioning, taking special note of historical analysis and the social and cultural approach. The main topic remains conservation of nature. |
| Course objective : | The course will attempt to make students aware of the many approaches to nature conservation, particularly the diversity of situations found in the world, and will also show how the erosion of biodiversity in our home regions is the result of a radical modification of the modes of occupying territory and developing resources. The intention is to give students basic knowledge of the biology of conservation, including main concepts and basic values, and to describe the framework of reference linking politics and nature conservation in Wallonia. |
| Prerequisites : | Basic concepts of biological systems and ecology, and of the administrative laws related to the environment |
| Workshops : | This course is the first part of the course given in 1st Master in Biology (BIOL0810-1) and all the activities linked to that class are available, optionally, to students in this course. It should be noted that BIOL0810-1 is taught during the second term. Students should take part in a one-day excursion, including visits to a number of sites between Houffalize and Maastricht; this trip takes place in June, at the date to be determined. |

| Written notes : | Slide shows that go along with the course can be downloaded (address TBA). |
