ENVT0737-2  Transfer and ecotoxicology of the micropollutants in the watery ecosystems
Duration :  30h Th
Credits/ECTS :
Master in Biology of organism and ecology, in-depth approach, 2nd yearFirst semester3
Holder(s) :  Célia Joaquim‑Justo, Jean‑Pierre Thomé
Language :  French language
Course contents :  After a brief overview of the differnt types of micropollutants, the fate of these molecules after their input in aquatic ecosystems will be presented. Toxicokinetics, biotransformations and impacts of these xenobiotics on aquatic organisms will also be considered. Strategies applied to adress these pollutions at the EU and Wallonia level will be discussed with the students.
Course objective :  Pollutants relevant of the following classes will be revised:

- inorganic ions
- organic toxic pollutants
-organometallic compounds

Sources and fate of these molecules in aquatic ecosystems will be considered (distribution, transport, biotransformations).

Accumulation in organisms and fate in organisms will be presented (bioaccumulation/biomagnification, storage, metabolisation, excretion).

The followig aspects of biological effects will be taught:

- dose-response curves
- methods for assessing toxicity
- genotoxic and neurotoxic effects, mitochondrial toxicity, effects towards ATPses,...
- endocrine disruption
- free radicals
- toxicity at the evel of organs, organisms, population and ecosystems.

Methods in water quality monitoring (biomonitoring, biomarkers) in EU and Wallonia will be presented as seminars and discussed with the students.
