| Course contents : | The course will consider the following topics.
- Power system control centers : functions and architecture
Data acquisition : SCADA system, RTUs, PMUs
- State estimation: weighted least squares estimator, observability analysis, bad data analysis, topology errors.
- Short-term load forecasting
- Real-time security analysis
- Functional optimization: economic dispatch, unit commitment, optimal power flow.

| Course objective : |
- Describe essential real-time functions of Energy Management Systems.
- Present applications of optimization theory to power system problems taking into account both security and economic constraints.

| Prerequisites : | Basic knowledge in power system components and analysis. |
 |
| Workshops : |
- A homework consisting in implementing a specified optimization problem on a test system.
- Analysis of a scientific publication dealing with one course topic.

| Assessment : |
- Grading of the written report and oral presentation of the project
- Grading of the oral presentation of the analysed scientific publication.
