Master in Electrical Engineering, in-depth approach, 2nd yearToute l'année5
Master in Electro-mechanical Engineering, Teaching Focus, 2nd yearToute l'année5
Master in Engineering Physics, in-depth approach, 2nd yearToute l'année5
Holder(s) :  Patrick Dular, Christophe Geuzaine
Language :  French language
Course contents :  This course presents modern numerical techniques for the modeling of electromagnetic phenomena, as well as the basic design rules used in designing electromagnetic systems.

The first part of the course is devoted to the study of finite element type techniques. Electrostatic, magnetostatic, electrokinetic, magnetodynamic and wave propagagtion models are presented. Different formulations and regimes are considered, as well as various couplings (with thermal and mecanical problems, or with electrical circuits).

The second part is devoted to the study of a topic selected in discussion with the students, depending on their masters projects or particular interests. Possible or formerly covered subjects include for example fast integral equation techniques or numerical techniques for optics.

The last part of the course presents basic rules used in designing electromagnetic systems (relays, inductances, etc.).
Course objective :  Presentation of modern numerical methods for the computation of electromagnetic fields. Demonstration of the basic rules used in designing electromagnetic systems.
Prerequisites :  Course in mathematical analysis and course in numerical analysis.
Workshops :  Practical work consists in studying an electromagnetic device (chosen in discussion with the students) by using readily available electromagnetic field computation software.
Organization :  In principle, the courses will take place in the second semester.
Written notes :  Course notes will be given in the form of photocopies.
Assessment :  Oral examination and/or project presentation.
