| Duration : | 25h Th, 20h Pr |
| Credits/ECTS : |
| Holder(s) : | Thierry Van Cutsem |
| Language : | French language |
| Course contents : | 1. Review of basic notions. Powers in sinusoidal regime, three-phase systems.
2. Description and modelling of the main components, analysis of their behaviour. Transmission line, per unit system, power transformer, synchronous generator, loads (including induction motors).
3. Analysis of steady-state operating conditions. Fundamental properties of electric power transfer. Per unit system. The "power flow" computation.
4. Control and response to disturbances. Frequency control. Voltage control. Post-disturbance operating point.
5. Faulted operating conditions. Analysis of balanced faults. Behaviour of synchronous machines, computation of short-circuit currents. |
| Course objective : | This course is an introduction to Electric Power System engineering. It deals with the modelling and operation of the main components, mainly in steady-state operating conditions. Frequency and voltage controls are described. The course also introduces the determination of post-disturbance operating points and the analysis of balanced faults. |
| Prerequisites : | A general course in Electrical circuits |
| Workshops : | Lectures include exercises solved by the lecturer. A homework is requested involving groups of 2 students, and involving the ARTERE and MATLAB software. |
| Organization : | The course is taught during the 2nd term of the academic year in order the students to have time to perform their homework. |
| Written notes : | The theoretical course notes are available in electronic (PDF) format and can be downloaded from my web page (see below). |
| Assessment : | Oral examination on the theory.
Written examination on the exercises presented during the lectures.
Report on the above mentioned homework. |
