| Course contents : | Consumption-production balance, Belgian power system network, interconnection (10h), overhead lines, cables and substations (material used, topologies, design) (10h), apparatuses, insulation coordination, relay protection overview (10h) |

| Course objective : | To give a general overview of the management and design of electric power systems (transmission & distribution). SOme details on the belgian network. |
|
| Prerequisites : | Basic lectures in electricity and circuit (Maxwell equations, electric and magnetic field, power, three-phase systems, alternator, motor, transformer). Thermodynamic basic knowledge (heat transfer), applied mechanics, material behaviour in traction, flexion and torsion. |
|
| Workshops : | Some typical installations will be visited (substations, cable manufacturing, apparatuses manufacturing), R,L, C computations of actual lines, line design, underground cable design (30 h). |
|
| Organization : | 1st quadrimester, 2hours basic lectures per week, exrcices by 2 or 4 hours/week |
|
| Written notes : | Introduction and exercices avaliable at student organisation, remaining parts distributed during lectures. |
|
| Assessment : | Examination either in January or June (oral).
Reports asked for exercices. |
