| Course contents : | The content of the course is the impact of the human rights protected by the European Convention on Human Rights on family and personality matters.A description is given of the typical mechanisms of control and interpretation used at the Court in Strasbourg and of the main principles and notions of its jurisprudence. Throughout the courses the students will become aware of the importance of human rights for this part of private law. A survey of the whole jurisprudence on family law is impossible, a selection is made of the most important decisions for some chosen themes. The students have to prepare the course by reading the next part of the syllabus, distributed by the professor, permitting to follow the courses with success. |

| Course objective : | Objective of the course is enabling the student to follow a course about law taught in Dutch. The subject of the course, the analysis of some decisions on Human Rights, is used as a pretext to talk and write in Dutch. An active participation of the student during the course is a must. Only this way, the everyday Dutch vocabulary and the specific vocabulary on the Human Rights will be transmitted. |

| Prerequisites : | A minimum knowledge of Dutch is necessary. Knowledge of human rights is not a prerequisite. |

| Workshops : | The method of the course consist in the analysis of jurisprudence. |
 |
| Organization : | The courses are interactive. Progressively a more and more active participation of each is student is required. The students have to become able to discuss in Dutch a topic about law. The accent is put on the spoken language, not on the written notes of it. The teacher will take in consideration the individual level of each student during the courses. The participation of the student during the courses is an element important at the oral examination. |

| Written notes : | The teacher gives a written resume of the course (syllabus). |

| Assessment : | The oral examination consists in a dialogue between the student and its teacher. The capacity of the student to express himself in Dutch is evaluated, this dialogue must concern a subject (text, decision, newspaper-article, songtext, poem,...) chosen by the student relating to human rights and to family law. A clear message has to be expressed by the student. |
