Course contents :  The course starts with a portrait of juvenile delinquency and consequently explores a few specific types of deviancy and the judicial reaction to juvenile delinquency.
In order to realise this program the course tackles the following themes: - A historical perspective on youth delinquency in Belgium. - A portrait of juvenile delinquency. - Male versus female juvenile delinquency. - Young people victims of crime. - The implication of etnic minorities in juvenile delinquency. - Gambling and the link with juvenile delinquency. - Adolescent prostitution and juvenile delinquency. - Youth gangs in Brussels. - Youngsters and the police. - The judicial reaction: the panoply of possible sanctions. - The transfer of juvenile offenders to adult court and the discussion of the age of criminal responsibility. - Youth detention. - Desistance.
Course objective :  Acquire a good knowledge of a selection of specific themes related to juvenile delinquency.
Prerequisites :  - Droit de la jeunesse (juvenile justice)
- Théories criminologiques (criminological theory)

Organization :  - Lectures; - guest lectures; - class discussion.

- the powerpoint presentations used during the course,
- the literature used as support for the course.
