Course contents :  This theoretical course aims at laying out the foundations of the aesthetic approach to cinema eand more largely to images. It relies on a collection of historical texts (some twenty texts from various times and various countries) and discusses key issues such as art/magic, device/imagination, time/space, figure/motif, etc.
Course objective :  Provide students with a solid theoretical framework on isses of aesthetics.
Prerequisites :  None.
Workshops :  Students must hand in a written file by the end of the year.

Written notes :  A collection of texts (in 3 volumes) consisting of all reference texts discussed over the year.
Assessment :  Oral examination bearing on the student's essay.
