| CHIM9260-1 | Properties and applications of surfactants
| Duration : | 15h Th |
| Credits/ECTS : |
| Holder(s) : | Guy Broze, Antoine Debuigne |
| Language : | French language |
| Course contents : | Surface active agents are present in numerous formulated products and used in the production process of many materials. This course aims to provide a comprehensive approach on general principles of surface-active agents physical chemistry and their formulation in finished products. The main families of surface-active agents will be presented (12h). Finally, the use of surfactants for the polymerization process in aqueous dispersed media will be discussed (3h). |
| Course objective : | This course aims to make students familiar with the surface-active compounds currently used in industry and to provide them with the underlying basic physico-chemical principles. |
| Prerequisites : | Basic knowledge of chemistry. |
| Organization : | Six lessons (2h each) will be devoted to the presentation of the main categories of surface-active agents. One lesson (3h) will describe the use of surfactants for the polymerization in aqueous dispersed media. |
| Written notes : | A copy of the slides (in French and/or in English) will be furnished to the students. |
| Assessment : | Written exam. |
