CHIM0603-2  Chemistry
Duration :  40h Th, 30h Pr
Credits/ECTS :
Bachelor in engineering sciences, civil ingineer in architecture orientation, 1st year6
Holder(s) :  Benoît Heinrichs
Language :  French language
Course contents :  The course is centered on two main themes: the structure of matter and its chemical transformation. It covers the following topics:
  • Basic notions
  • Nuclear and electronic structures of atoms
  • Chemical equilibrium
  • Acid-Base equilibria
  • Ionic and solubility equilibria
  • Redox equilibria - Electrochemistry
Course objective :  The course aims at presenting general chemistry in relation with the different fields of engineering. It begins with a reminder of the fundamentals of chemistry in order to bring students from secondary school to a common initial level of knowledge.
Prerequisites :  Basic notions of mathematics, physics and chemistry from secondary school.
Workshops :  The aim of exercises sessions is to lead students to master the subject through problems solving. During those sessions, a problem is first solved and explained in details. Then, students solve successive problems by themselves with the help of instructors.
Organization :  Lectures: 40h - Exercises: 30h First and second quadrimestres.
Written notes :  Notes related to lectures and exercises sessions are distributed by the AEES students organization.
Assessment :  Written test in January. A note higher than or equal to 10/20 gives exemption for the final test. Notes less than 10/20 are discarded.

Written and oral tests in May/June.

Written test in August/September (retakes).
